Heute war
es neblig und um 20 Grad, ein idealer Tag um auf der Insel Illa de la Toxa Golf
zu spielen… Manuel hatte mir von diesem Golfplatz erzählt, der ganz in der Nähe
war, so machte ich mich am Nachmittag auf Richtung Norden. Um 15 Uhr schlug ich
auf dem 9-Loch Platz Golf La Toja ab… Es ist einer der schönsten Plätze, die
ich je gespielt habe, und zum Glück hatte es nur 9 Loch… denn, obwohl weit und
breit kein anderer Spieler in Sicht war und ich alle Zeit der Welt hatte an meinem
Spiel zu arbeiten, setzte ich noch immer zu viel Kraft ein und viele Bälle
landeten im Wasser…
Today it was misty and about 20 centigrade, an ideal day to play golf on the island Illa de la Toxa... Manuel had told me about this golf course, which was very close, so in the afternoon I headed direction north. By 3 pm I drove off on the 9-hole course Golf La Toja... It's one of the nicest courts I've ever played, and luckily it had only 9 holes... as, although there was not another player in sight far and wide and I had all the time in the world to work on my game, I still played with too much force and a lot of balls landed in the water...

Wasser
hatte es auf diesem Platz mehr als genug, denn er war fast gänzlich vom Meer
umrundet. Diese Chance hatte sich Julio zu seinem Nutzen gemacht und arbeitet
als Ballfischer hier… Ja, er wartet auf dem wasserreichsten Loch (5) bis jemand
einen Ball im Atlantik versenkt und versucht dann mit seiner ausfahrbaren Rute
an ihn zu gelangen um ihn schliesslich mit dem Netz herauszufischen. Natürlich
traf auch ich ins kühle Nass, aber Julio rettete den Ball! : )
Julio begleitete mich die restlichen 4 Loch und bot mir eine Tour um die Halbinsel O Grove an. Was konnte mir schon Besseres passieren? Ich hatte dies eh vor und mit einem Julio habe ich einen einheimischen Führer plus Begleiter gefunden! Da ich aber auch diese Insel noch erkunden wollte, sich alles in nächster Nähe befand und ich Flexibilität über alles liebe, schlug ich vor mit zwei Autos zu fahren… so konnte Julio auch jederzeit zu seiner ‘Arbeit‘ zurückkehren.
There was more than enough water on this course, for it iss surrounded almost entirely by the ocean. Julio had taken his chance and works as a ball-fisher here... Yes, he waits at the most water-rich hole (5) until someone dumps a ball in the Atlantic and then tries to reach it with his extendable rod to finally fish it out with its net. Of course, I hit the cold water, but Julio saved the ball! : )
Julio accompanied me the remaining 4 holes and offered me a tour around O Grove peninsula. What better could happen to me? That was my plan anyway and with Julio I found a local guide plus companion! But because I wanted to explore first this island, everything was in the neighbourhood and I love to be flexible, I suggested going with two cars... and like this Julio could return anytime to his 'work'.

Die Insel
A Toxa hatten wir im Nu abgeklappert, sie bestand eigentlich nur aus dem Golfplatz
und ein paar Hotels. Julio führte mich über die Brücke auf die Halbinsel nach O
Grove. Er arbeitete als Muschelfischer und da es momentan keine Saison war,
hatte er Urlaub. Er unterliess es jedoch nicht, zuerst das Boot, auf dem er
arbeitet, und seine Arbeit im Hafen von O Grove vorzuführen. Unser nächster
Halt war der Mirador de Siradella, der einen herrlichen Rundblick bietet. Darauf
passierten wir Porto Piedras Negras mit seinem malerischen Hafen um
schliesslich in der Taberna o Cruce in San Vicente do Mar der Hitze zu
entfliehen…
In no time had we seen the island of A Toxa, as it really only consists of the golf course and a few hotels. Julio led me across the bridge to the peninsula to O Grove. He worked as a clammer and because it was not the season, he was on vacation. However, he did not leave it undone first to visit the boat at the port of O Grove and explain his work. Our next stop was the Mirador de Siradella which offers a magnificent panorama. Then we passed Porto Piedras Negras with its picturesque harbour and finally escape from the heat having a drink in the Taberna O Cruce in San Vicente do Mar...

Heute
fand in O Grove gerade das Fest Virgen del Carmen statt und um 19 Uhr versammelten
sich viele Leute an der Küste um die Schiffe mit der Statue der Virgen del
Carmen zuzuschauen, wie sie hintereinander um die Bucht fuhren.
Today the festival Virgen del Carmen took place in O Grove and at 7 pm a lot of people gathered on the shore to watch the ships lining up and cruising the statue of Virgen del Carmen around the bay.

Nun hatte
ich Hunger und extremen Appetit nach all die Meerfrüchten, die so gepriesen
werden hier in Galizien. Julio empfahl mir das Restaurant O Chiringuito in der
Nähe des Hafens, und weil wir relativ früh (21 Uhr) waren, konnten wir den
Tisch auswählen, an dem wir speisen wollten. Ich bestellte eine
Meerfrüchteplatte für 2 Personen und eine Flasche Albariño… und so liessen wir
den schönen Tag ausklingen…

Now I felt hungry and had appetite of seafood which is so much praised here in
Galicia. Julio recommended the restaurant O Chiringuito near the port, and
because we were relatively early (9 pm), we even could choose the table we
wanted to have dinner on. I ordered a seafood platter for 2 persons and a
bottle of Albariño... and that’s how a beautiful day faded away...
