Auch heute begab ich mich um 10 Uhr zum Frühstück und es erwartete mich ein super Frühstücksfbuffet im Hotel Eurostars Las Claras (www.eurostarslasclaras.com) – das beste meiner ganzen Reise, ich wüsste nicht, was fehlte! : )

 

Also today I went for breakfast at 10 am and a terrific buffet was awaiting me at the Hotel Euro Stars Las Claras (www.eurostarslasclaras.com) - the best of my entire trip, I cannot think of what was missing! : )

Das heutige Ziel war das 400 km entfernte Bilbao an der Biscaya. Kurz nach 12 Uhr bei bereits 30 Grad nahm ich die Autobahn Richtung Nordosten über Valladolid und Burgos und erreichte Bilbao um 16 Uhr. Ich parkierte mein Auto in einer Tiefgarage in der Nähe des imposanten Guggenheim Museums und nahm mir Zeit dieses zu bestaunen.

 

Eigentlich hatte ich vor in Bilbao zu übernachten, beschloss dann aber weiter Richtung Frankreich zu fahren, denn ich hatte heute doch keine Lust auf Grossstadt… Nach einem Abstecher an die Nordküste folgte ich weiter der Autobahn um sie dann kurz vor San Sebastian zu verlassen. Ich versuchte vergeblich der Küste entlang ein Hotel zu finden, jeder einzelne Platz war belegt!
 

Today's goal was Bilbao on the Bay of Biscay about 400 km away. Shortly after noon with 30 centigrade already, I took the highway direction northeast via Valladolid and Burgos and reached Bilbao at 4 pm. I parked my car in a parking garage near the impressive Guggenheim Museum and took my time to stroll around it.

 

Actually, I was planning to stay over in Bilbao, but then decided to continue towards France, because I didn’t really fancy a big city today... After a trip to the north coast, I followed the highway to leave it then just before San Sebastian. I tried in vain to find a hotel along the coast, every single space was occupied!

 

 

Hondarribia

 

Nach total 600 km heute fuhr ich um 22 Uhr beim Hotel Jauregui (www.hoteljauregui.com) im hübschen Städtchen Hondarrabia an der französischen Grenze vor und hatte prompt Glück! Nachdem ich das Nötigste ins Zimmer gebracht hatte, unternahm ich einen Spaziergang zuerst durch den alten Kern auf dem Hügel und dann entlang der Uferpromenade im modernen Teil des Städtchens. Um 23 Uhr setzte ich mich dann hungrig ins Restaurant La Hermandad de Pescadores gleich gegenüber dem Hotel und genoss ein weiteres fantastisches Essen mit netten Tischnachbarn…

After a total of 600 km today at 10 pm I drove up the Hotel Jauregui in Hondarribia (www.hoteljauregui.com), a pretty town on the French border, and indeed I was lucky! After having put my essentials in my room, I took a walk first through the old core on the hill and then along the waterfront in the modern part of town. At 11 pm I had dinner at the lovely restaurant La Hermandad de Pescadores, just opposite the hotel, and enjoyed another fantastic meal having nice table neighbours...
